Melissa was born and raised on a small farm in North Alabama. Her passion for horses began at an early age- she is a twin and while her mother was pregnant, she fell off and “split-the-egg”, and has been riding ever since. She began competing in local shows, NBHA, 4-H, and rodeos. To help fund her habit, she began working when she was 15 years old at a vet clinic, and continued through high school, until she left for college in 2006. She attended the University of West Alabama where she was a collegiate athlete for the rodeo team. She continued working at vet clinics and a local feed store, and realized the business degree wasn’t for her.
In 2011, she packed up, moved to North Texas, and attended North Central Texas College’s equine program. She graduated with honors from NCTC with her Associates in Equine Science, Associates in Farm & Ranch Management, and completed her Agricultural Management, Horse Training and Behavior, and Equine Breeding Certificates. She then went on to the Institute of Bodywork Studies for massage therapy and became a licensed massage therapist in 2014, and has taken continuing education in equine bodywork and acupressure, equine bio-mechanics, and equine myofascial release. She also continues her studies in the human field and runs a successful practice alongside Dr. Kelsey Howard inside The Shops on Union.
